Summary

2024 marked the seventh year since starting the company with my co-founders, Jawad Stouli and Raphaël Boukris. The data privacy was as lively and exciting as ever, and the team at Didomi was likely the busiest it’s ever been.

As we approach 2025 and wrap up the last quarter of the year, now is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past 12 months, celebrate our achievements, and look forward to what’s next.

Reflecting on the data privacy industry in 2024

At the start of 2024, we asked our team and gathered experts to guess the most important data privacy trends for 2024. Some, like the importance of consent, have proven to be accurate, while others, such as the announced deprecation of third-party cookies in Google Chrome, have taken unexpected turns.

Data privacy is continuing to become a necessity for organizations around the world (get a feel for it by browsing our data privacy country guides), starting, of course, in Europe, where several developments have made waves this year, including:

While the E.U. is always at the forefront of the regulatory space, the rest of the world is catching up.

In the U.S., new regulations continue to be introduced seemingly every other month. So far, 19 states have enacted comprehensive consumer privacy since 2018, and eight additional states will come into effect in 2025. By the end of next year, nearly half the U.S. population (about 150 million Americans) will be covered by a state-level privacy law.

Whether this will lead the new government to pursue the ever-allusive federal American data privacy law remains to be seen.

Aside from new laws, the industry has also rallied behind frameworks and standards to help all players approach compliance more easily. IAB Europe’s TCF v2.2, introduced in the second half of 2023, continues to address the needs of thousands of organizations (read our report here).

In the U.S., the IAB also introduced the Global Privacy Platform (GPP) to help companies comply with the current patchwork of U.S. laws. Major corporations have also started providing frameworks of their own to ensure the compliance of their users: Google introduced its Google consent mode V2 early in the year, while Microsoft’s consent mode for Universal Event Tracking (UET) is also gaining widespread coverage.

I could go on, but this already paints the beginning of a picture of where the data privacy industry stands today: A multiplication of regulations, frameworks, players, and opportunities that can be overwhelming, especially for global organizations. As always, our mission at Didomi is to help you navigate this ecosystem.

Let’s see how we did this year.

Celebrating our 2024 milestones and achievements

2024 saw many exciting news and developments for Didomi as a company.

Among our achievements and milestones, the most important recognition comes from our customers themselves: Didomi was once again named a leader in the latest report from software comparison aggregator G2 and received numerous accolades from verified user reviews:

This satisfaction from our clients is reflected by the great success stories and case studies we’ve published throughout the years with some of our customers and partners.

From an industry perspective, we were also proud to be included again as a vendor in Gartner’s 2024 Market Guide for Consent and Preference Management and recognized by Google as a gold-tier CMP partner among some of the best Consent Management Platforms today

From a product standpoint, 2024 was also an eventful year, with a lot of work, both at the forefront of our product and in the background, to make our solutions as complete as possible, thanks to the feedback and participation of our customers, partners, and collaborators.

Some of the areas we focused on in 2024 included:

  • Multi-regulation consent management: Increased customization and flexibility to our flagship CMP to help global organizations manage consent across regulations.
  • SDK performance and updates: A push to ensure improved performance and gain deeper control of the impact of CMPs on core web vitals, along with continued updates to adapt to changes such as Apple’s new privacy requirements.
  • U.S. Consent Management Platform: Providing additional coverage for U.S. state laws in the Didomi Console and updates catered to U.S. organizations.
  • Advanced Compliance Monitoring: Increased focus on our Compliance Monitoring capabilities, helping organizations stay on top of their efforts and remain in control of their ecosystem.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. Throughout the year, we communicated about some of our innovations and product updates transparently in quarterly updates and timely dedicated articles you can find in our Didomi Solutions articles.

To go along with our solutions, we introduced the Didomi Academy, an online learning platform accessible to customers and partners to help them upskill their data privacy skills. For our valued partners, this goes hand-in-hand with launching a new Didomi Partner Program, including a directory for enhanced visibility and a new level system for more clarity and transparency.

Lastly, I am proud to report that in 2024, we continued to emphasize sharing our expertise and leadership with our partners and customers and the digital industry at large. We did so by being vocal and transparent about the opportunities we see in the market, from the evolving third-party cookies situation to the rise of Connected TV or the traceability of consent.

Our team guided our audience throughout the year, breaking down complex topics and inviting experts to share their views. It is difficult to select specific topics, but I encourage you to browse our blog (we revamped it this year) and revisit our webinars to get an idea.

I want to take a moment to thank all the collaborators, panelists, and guest contributors who participated in this year’s success for Didomi.

Looking ahead: What’s next in 2025?

So, now that 2024 is almost behind us, what can we look forward to, and what will the focus be in 2025? I don’t have a magic ball, and I’m sure next year will be full of exciting news and innovations, but here are some of my predictions:

  • Alternatives to third-party cookies will become even more critical: We extensively covered alternatives to third-party cookies this year, collaborating with Unique IDs providers and exploring topics like data clean rooms and server-side tagging. More than ever, all these (and more) will be front and center for digital organizations in 2025.
  • CTV will continue to grow as a key advertising channel: As one of the first CMP providers to be certified for CTV by Google, we’ve long been tuned into the potential of this channel. But the growth of CTV has been extremely impressive nonetheless, and we can expect regulators and legislators to catch up with its privacy implications in 2025.
  • The finance industry will prepare for FiDA: The European Commission’s Financial Data Access (FiDA) is set to go live in 2027. However, preparations have already started for actors across the banking and insurance sectors. I discussed this at the 2024 Adobe FSI Summit in Paris and expect it to become a major topic going forward. Learn more here
  • Mobile app compliance will become a key topic: The French DPA (CNIL) issued recommendations on mobile app compliance a few months ago and announced a wave of enforcement starting in the spring. We expect this will be reflected by other European regulators.

To hear more predictions from the team, follow us on LinkedIn and sign up for our newsletter. We invited the rest of the Didomi team and a group of select data privacy experts from across our industry to share their thoughts about the trends for next year in a paper that will come out in January. You don’t want to miss it!
