Over the last few months, Google has introduced several new data privacy requirements and updates for its products and services, including the release of Google Consent Mode V2, the extension of the organization’s CMP requirements to Switzerland, and the looming deprecation of third-party cookies in Chrome.

June 2024 update: In a recent communication, Google announced that an enforcement extension had been granted in light of publisher feedback about the challenges of implementing the TCF in a CTV environment. The prospective deadline has now been pushed to July 2025.

Nevertheless, the organization emphasized the importance of CTV partners adopting a certified CMP as soon as possible.

 

Introducing Google's new consent requirements for CTV

Google has announced that its consent management requirements will now apply to CTV inventory. Publishers and developers serving ads using Google products (AdSense, Ad Manager, or AdMob) to users in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland must already comply with Google’s EU user consent policy.

 

Starting in July 2024, this will also apply to connected TVs (CTV).

 

The main and most important step in complying with Google’s requirements is implementing a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) to ensure compliant data collection and integration with the Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF).
