Summary

Every quarter, we present you a recap of the product changes, updates, and releases we’ve been working on over the last three months and give you a sneak peek at what’s next.

As the year picks up speed and after an intense first quarter for the data privacy industry, our team has been able to focus on important projects for our solutions, some of which we are looking to release in the coming months.

But first, let’s look at some of the highlights on the product side at Didomi in the past quarter.

Connected TV (CTV) updates from Google and Didomi

Google has driven major data privacy updates in its products and services over the past couple of years, from the release of Google Consent Mode V2 earlier to the extensive CMP requirements in the EU, the UK, and Switzerland and the ever-evasive phasing-out of third-party cookies in Chrome (more on that below).

The company's next critical deadline relates to CTV inventory, for which Google’s consent requirement will apply in July 2025

As part of the Google CMP Partner Program, Didomi is one of the very few CMP providers offering solutions for all three environments: web, app, and CTV, and our CMP for CTV is ready for implementation according to Google’s new requirements.

While we’ve supported cross-device consent—which allows user choices to be shared across multiple devices and environments—for years, we’ve continued to improve the experience for both our customers and their end users. The latest CTV feature, driven by customer requests, allows you to display a reassurance banner informing end users that their consent has already been collected on another device. Users gain insights into how their consent is applied universally, reinforcing trust and control over personal data.

Industry trends and hot topics from the past quarter

Continuing with Google news and updates, the company has announced that the phasing-out of third-party cookies in its Chrome browser will take a bit longer than expected amidst review from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), something we covered (and predicted) in our article on the deprecation of third-party cookies.

The current timeline is lining up as follows, with examination from the CMA later this year and a prospective date for effective deprecation in Q1 2025:

Didomi - End of 3rd-party cookies Timeline - EN

While this doesn’t change much on our end product-wise (collecting user consent for data processing is still required under many regulations regardless of third-party cookies in Chrome), it’s an opportunity for our customers to solidify their approach and explore alternatives to third-party cookies before the deadline, such as leveraging first- and zero-party data, and to discover sur as consent lineage, as presented by our VP of Strategy Frank Ducret

Another hot topic in the past few months has been Consent or Pay, a debate surrounding the use of paywalls stemming from the legal proceedings between privacy non-profit NOYB and Meta. The European Data Protection Board released an opinion piece that our Chief Privacy Officer, Thomas Adhumeau, recently broke down on the blog.

Lastly, following the interest for our 2024 benchmark on data collection in Europe issued earlier this year, we gathered our data, product, and marketing teams to release a follow-up focused specifically on the Spanish market amidst massive changes from the country’s national data protection authority.

What’s next? Product roadmap sneak peek

This summer is a busy one at Didomi. We are working on major updates in the background, and while we cannot divulge everything we’re working on yet, major updates we’ve worked on over the past few months and are releasing this month include:

  • Core Web Vitals: We’ve long been sharing how important the topic of performance is in everything that we do. Earlier this year, Google completed the replacement of First Input Delay (FID) by Interaction to Next Paint (INP) as a stable Core Web Vital metric. This marks a significant change in how the company measures interaction responsiveness, and we’ve been working closely with them to optimize our solutions accordingly.

  • We’re delighted to share that we’ve made significant progress and will soon be able to communicate more details. To learn more, sign up for our July 16th webinar on Core Web Vitals with Google.
  • Advanced Compliance Monitoring (ACM): Our ACM solution, which helps organizations monitor compliance across hundreds of websites automatically, is currently undergoing updates to perform more efficiently than ever before.
  • Support for more regulations and standards, bringing our solutions to new places and addressing new challenges for our customers.

We’re looking forward to telling you more about our work. In the meantime, we wish you a great summer. To discuss updates mentioned in this article or any questions you might have, book a call with the team:
