Summary

Economia Digital is a prominent Spanish communication group focusing on finance and business news. Founded 15 years ago, it is now among the country's top five economic or finance media with a high presence throughout Spain.

“The company has expanded to include multiple brands like finanzas.com and Inversión magazine. With around 35 employees, Economia Digital boasts a robust online presence.

Juan Samaniego, Commercial/Sales Director at Economia Digital, shares their journey in overcoming data privacy challenges and achieving over 90% consent rates on their various online properties.

Challenge: Safeguarding user privacy while building customer trust

The media industry has seen increasing scrutiny and regulation regarding data privacy, making compliance a critical challenge for companies like Economia Digital. As a leading financial and business news outlet in Spain, maintaining user trust and adhering to regulatory requirements has always been a top priority for the group.

Economia Digital needed a robust solution to ensure compliance without compromising user experience or losing audience trust. Additionally, the constantly evolving data privacy regulations required a solution that could adapt swiftly to new requirements, adding another layer of complexity to their compliance efforts.

“The most significant challenge was ensuring we were doing the right thing, avoiding issues with authorities, and, more importantly, maintaining trust”

Commercial/Sales Director at Economia Digital

The organization’s journey to finding the right solution began with exploring various options. The team initially adopted a free solution but soon realized the need for a more reliable and feature-rich platform.

“While this free tool was a decent solution, we were not confident it worked entirely correctly. We thought that a completely free solution might not offer all the needed features or provide as accurate a percentage of validation.”

Commercial/Sales Director at Economia Digital

Solution: Implementing a highly customizable and robust CMP

Economia Digital chose to implement the Didomi Consent Management Platform (CMP) after recommendations from peers and positive feedback about its effectiveness and popularity among Spanish media.

The implementation process was methodical. It started with beta testing on one of the group’s websites to ensure the solution worked seamlessly. Following successful testing, the organization deployed the solution across all platforms, with the IT team and traffic manager ensuring accurate data verification and minimal disruption to advertising campaigns.

“We conducted beta testing and confirmed that everything worked correctly. Afterward, we began implementing it on one website, diariogol.com. Once we were confident in its functionality, we rolled it out across the rest of our websites."

Commercial/Sales Director at Economia Digital

Economia Digital has implemented a custom pop-up banner that stands out in its design and functionality. This approach is particularly significant as pop-up banners are the most frequently used format across Europe, as highlighted in our dedicated benchmark.

Two of the most impactful changes implemented by the team to leverage customization options for their consent banners were:

  • Color play for buttons: The pop-up features three buttons with the "Agree and Close" button highlighted in a bolder color compared to the other two. This visual distinction aims to guide user interaction more effectively.
  • Brand Integration: Economia Digital has included its logo on the banner to maintain brand consistency and enhance recognition. This ensures that the branding remains prominent and cohesive across their digital touchpoints.

Results: Consent rate increased from 70% to over 90%

Following the implementation of the Didomi CMP, Economia Digital observed a 20% consent rate increase, bringing them to 12% above the industry average of 77.9% in Spain, as highlighted in our 2024 benchmark report. This massive success is attributed by the team to:

  • A clear and transparent user experience provided by the solution.
  • A continuous effort from the Economia Digital team.
  • Enhanced technical performance, retaining audience trust.
  • Effective adaptation to evolving regulations, ensuring ongoing compliance and user trust.
  • Regular updates and support from Didomi, providing operational stability.

Economia Digital not only achieved higher consent rates but, most importantly, ensured a smoother experience for its users and improved regulatory compliance.

Looking forward, Juan expresses confidence in the continued collaboration with Didomi. This ongoing partnership will ensure Economia Digital stays at the forefront of data privacy compliance and user trust:

“For us, it's crucial to identify the best solutions, and I believe Didomi offers a comprehensive perspective on the market. They can provide valuable insights through their partners, even without revealing specific details about them.“
